The arts can transform and enhance the lives of children and contribute to lifelong creativity and wellbeing. This major international conference explores these themes and follows on from Children in Europe’s widely praised publication Picture this…Young children and the arts which was guest edited by the Scottish Arts Council’s Head of Education Joan Parr and published in March 2008. |
The two-day conference, is centred around Glasgow Science Centre with study trips to Stirling, Edinburgh and Inverness. It will allow delegates to come together and consider the significance of the arts (encompassing all artforms) in learning, social and emotional development drawing on research and practical examples from the UK, Europe and around the world.
A number of Scottish Arts Council representatives will be taking part in the conference including Chairman Dr Richard Holloway and Head of Education Joan Parr, conference delegates will also see films featuring young children’s experience of the arts entitled ‘The Arts & Me: young voices’ commissioned by the Scottish Arts Council and produced by Glasgow and Edinburgh city councils.
Other Scottish representatives who will be sharing their knowledge and experience include representatives from Imaginate Children’s Theatre Festival, Project Ability and Creative Links officers. They will be joined by speakers from Norway, Italy and England and delegates from across Europe.
